End of Year Pre-Kindergarten:
* Child combines words to make a compound word Ex- bird + house =birdhouse * Child deletes a word from a compound word Ex-birdhouse-bird = house * Child blends syllables into words * Child recognizes rhyming words Ex- tree/bee, chair/bear, star/car * Child can produce a word that begins with the same sound as a given pair of words. Ex- bird, baby, bat (all start with “b” sound) * Child blends onset (initial consonant or consonants) and rime (vowel to end) to form a familiar one‐ syllable word Ex- R + ug = rug * Child recognizes and blends spoken phonemes into one syllable words with pictorial support. Ex-“K”- “e”= key * Child names at least 20 upper and at least 20 lower case letters in the language of instruction. * Child recognizes at least 20 distinct letter sounds in the language of instruction. (points to correct letter given the sound) * Child produces at least 20 distinct letter sound correspondences in the language of instruction * Student can retell a story after it is read aloud * Child demonstrates understanding of print directionality including left to right and top to bottom. * Child can distinguish between elements of print including letters, words, and pictures. * Child moves from scribbles to some letter‐sound correspondence using beginning and ending sounds when writing. * Child uses words to rote count from 1 to 30. * Child counts 1–10 items, with one count per item. * Child recognizes one‐digit numerals, 0–9. * Child demonstrates use of location words (such as “over,” “under,” “above,” “on,” “beside,” “next to,” “between,” “in front of,” “near,” “far,” etc.). * Child sorts objects that are the same and different into groups and uses language to describe how the groups are similar and different. |
